Enjoying the view in Cape Town
safety, south africa, study abroad — By Laiah on June 17, 2010
Upon arriving in Cape Town, I promptly took the cable car up to the top of Table Mountain to get a view of the city. Cape Town is a remarkable place and is safe for women travelers, but caution should be exercised, such as not carrying around a lot of money at one time. American women will be subjected to cat calls and sometimes unwanted touching, but in general, during the day, it’s safe.
At night, it’s important to know it’s not safe to walk around anywhere, but drivers are available to take you to Cape Town’s bustling nightlife locations. South Africa has a bad reputation due to it’s high rates of crime, but if female travelers are smart, they will encounter a place full of warm and dynamic people.
