Trekking Through the Black Desert
egypt, safety, vacation — By Rachel on June 17, 2010
Traveled to the Black Desert in Egypt with my brother. We paid an Egyptian guide a 600 Egyptian Pounds, which is a little more than $100 to take us on a 2-day/1-night trip around the desert. At night, he set up a fire and made us a simple vegetarian dinner (per request) and set up our sleeping bags and a wind barrier. It was great until a coyote bit my brother’s toe. Keep your feet inside your sleeping bag!
Generally, I tried to cover up completely while in Egypt, but the desert is fairly desolate and we ran into some other tourists along the way so I felt comfortable wearing short sleeves. Also, it was ridiculously hot in June.

funny about feet-in-the-bag warning!
