Trekking from Nazareth on the first leg of the “Jesus Trail,” I ascend to Zippori National Park, which sits atop a mountain 289 m above sea. The site houses archeological ruins from an ancient Jewish city whose history is much like Israel’s itself; Zippori has experienced a multitude of changes, with civilizations ousting one another in turbulent sequence.
It was only a head cold, but I felt like I couldn’t breathe. My nose was clogged up, my head felt like it had been stuffed full of cotton, and every time a car passed me on the road and kicked up dust, I was thrown into a coughing fit.
I ended up standing in line at the Uffizi museum in Florence for two hours. My boyfriend Jarl and I were in the line for people who had not thought ahead to make reservations. I held our place in line while he went to get us chocolate gelato, which dripped down my chin while I ate it
Amongst the layers of clothing and English grammar worksheets, you will find my safety blanket threaded with granola bars. I consider myself a courageous eater, but it doesn’t hurt to have a foundation of hearty snacks coating my suitcase.
