As in South Africa, the braai/barbecue is a social event that is an important part of Chile’s culture. I’ve seen a music video in which a Chilean singer sings about everybody ‘parilla’-ing together exactly like the South African Braai Day songs!
I recently went to visit Limon Province in Costa Rica with the other students from my university’s center in Heredia. Limon Province is often given a bad name, especially in Costa Rican society. Partially this negative image comes from the racism in Costa Rican history that continues today. Limon Province is mostly populated by descendants of immigrants from Jamaica and other Caribbean countries.
I’ve been in boarding school at the foot of the Himalayas for about a month now, and the longer I stay here, the more I realize that coming to high school in India for my junior year was an amazing decision.
