I’ll admit it: I never fully appreciated living in the UK until I moved away. Isn’t it always the case, though, with your home country? Now, whenever I come back, I feel like an over-excited tourist, with the familiar becoming all shiny-new and wonderful.

I just returned from a three week academic study trip to Poland. I am a graduate student at the Hebrew University, and was lucky enough to earn a fellowship to travel to Poland to study the Holocaust and Polish Jewish relations. However, before, the trip, when people asked me how long I would be in Poland, and I replied three weeks, they were all taken aback.
Of all the ski towns I have been to, Soelden, Austria is my favorite. I’ve skied in Lake Tahoe and I’ve skied in Aspen, Vail, and Stowe. I have been to more ski towns than big cities. Soelden is such a ski town that in the middle of winter, visitors can ski in and ski out of most of the hotels.
