I am often asked why I decided to uproot my kids and move to Costa Rica. There are a few things that inspired me to take this leap. One thing was my son was going off to college in Florida…we’re from Maine. With him leaving, we really didn’t have a reason to stay in the Northeast.

A popular saying goes, ‘It is medicine, not scenery, for which a sick man must go searching’ (Seneca). But I am sure the opposite holds true for anyone who visits Kenya. With its exotic animals, tropically abundant lands, sun-kissed coastline, and tribal zest, scenic Kenya has the cure for all ailments.
That means “no worries” in Setswana, the local language in Botswana. Having lived and gone to school here for two months so far, I’ve started to adopt that philosophy. Don’t get me wrong; there are plenty of times when I start to worry.-like when I wake up and learn that all the dorms have run out of water. Or when my teachers routinely show up to class fifteen minutes late. I’ve learned how to not let things get me down, and luckily, there are so many amazing things in Botswana, as well!
