Cheap Flights with the Family

July 10, 2013

Travelling the world with a family can prove to be an expensive occupation. Sometimes travel expenditure may prove to be higher than the actual holiday budget, but there are ways to avoid this problem.

The Internet

Thankfully the advent of the internet means that international travel is no longer reserved for the very well-heeled–a quick search online for cheap flights will reveal that there are bargains to be found, even during the school holidays. This is a huge advantage as teachers tend to frown if you announce that you’re taking your child out of school for a holiday during term time.

Some discounted flights will offer a one-way trip to your dream destination at a generously reduced price. This isn’t necessarily a trick to make you pay the full fare on your way back home. Once you reach your end destination, open your laptop and start searching for a one way flight that will take you back home. They will exist.

Make sure that you take in any extra taxes and costs used by the airline into account. Of course if you’re lucky enough to be able to take your time and can travel from country to country without having to worry about the calendar, then you’ll probably be able to find even more low cost options.

Last Minute Cancellations

The introduction of last minute cancellations means that your family can take advantage of an airline’s empty seats as a result of the original passenger’s inability to take up their booking. This option applies to holidays and flights but you should only look at this idea if you’re not constrained by time. An internet search will provide many ideas and the savings are considerable.

Some of these cancellations are advertised on the company website but you should also try to give the operators a call to find out all the different terms and conditions. The very brave can also register for a flight-only selection with a chartered airline, though you could find yourself departing at very short notice as a result.

If you’re prepared to travel mid-week rather than at a weekend, then this will increase the possibility of being able to match your needs with the airline’s empty seats.
