Lean In or Cash In: Why are High-End Travel Companies So Focused on Women?

Travel-related companies are catering more and more to female travelers–and specifically to those who can afford to pay for more.  This week, Bloomberg reported on hotels that send women staff members to deliver late-night meals to female guests, airplanes that offer business travelers more seclusion and privacy, hotel menus with smaller portions, and hotel bars that are more open and better suited to solo women travelers.

Changes in the market place that seek to help women feel safer and more at ease in their travels are positive, right?

On the one hand, it seems that as more females rise the ranks professionally and become executives, travel companies are trying to meet their new demands.  On the other hand, maybe companies are merely finding a new clientele for whom to develop pricey products.
Yes, women-only floors may create a much-needed sense of security for the frequent female flyer.  But what can be said about the planes that now offer more humidity in order to stop women’s skin from becoming too dry?
