Grand National: 3 Days of Horse Races, Betting, and Glamorous Hats

I loved my first trip to England, which is why I’d decided to travel there again.  Yet, I didn’t want this trip to be a repeat of my last. I’d already taken photos in front of the red phone booths, tried to make the Buckingham Palace guards laugh, shopped at Harrod’s, driven through the countryside, and enjoyed tea and scones. This time, I wanted to do something different.

After doing some research, I realized that the Grand National, the biggest horse racing event of the year, would be taking place in Liverpool while I was there. I’d never attended a horse race before, but I knew I loved horses and competitive sports. So, why not make my first horse race the biggest one of all?

When I read about the Grand National Ladies Day, I was officially sold. On April 10th, Grand National’s second day, the race turns into a huge social event with everyone dressed to the nines and women sporting fabulous hats. I had always dreamt of wearing one of those glamorous hats. But in my regular life, I’d never had the opportunity.  It was time to find the perfect hat.

When I told my friends about my plans, the first question they asked me was, would I bet? I’d never betted on any sort of race before, but as they say, when in Rome…  I decided that I would get into the spirit and place a bet.  Of course, in addition to watching the race itself, I knew I’d check live odds for Grand National Day nonstop. Who knows, maybe I’ll even win. Wish me luck!
