JustFly’s Guide To The Best Canadian Road Trips
There may not be a country with better road trip potential than Canada. The country features several high profile and very diverse cities, many different climates, and long highways between most major cities or attractions. It’s more or less the ultimate “Sunday drive” country. While you will find countless guides talking about Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver, the long roads between these places are loaded with gems worth seeing for yourself. To find out what you should keep your eye out for I spoke with JustFly, an online travel company. They detailed three road trips you should make time for if you find yourself in the Great White North.
Montreal, Quebec to Toronto, Ontario – 542 Kilometres
The shortest road trip on the list, this drive can be easily done in a day. Starting in Montreal, you will quickly enter the province of Ontario as you head West towards Ontario’s capital of Toronto. The first thing you should make time to stop at is the 1000 Islands Region. This area is beautiful and features, you guessed it, 1000 islands to explore. While some are quite large, there are some that are amazingly small. The criteria? One square foot of land above water year-round that supports two trees. After leaving this area you will soon come to The Big Apple. Not that Big Apple, but Highway 401’s most famous pie shop! Located near Colborne, Ontario, The Big Apple brags about selling millions of pies with their often updated sign and you can’t miss the massive apple on their property. From there it is a short drive to Toronto according to JustFly’s review.
Montreal, Quebec to Halifax, Nova Scotia – 1,259 Kilometres
This road trip will take you through one of North America’s oldest cities. Quebec City lies roughly three hours East of Montreal and is a must visit. The Old City gives you a look at life before Canada and the United States as the region was a key battleground between British and French forces. Beyond Quebec City, you’ll get the chance to pass through Fredricton and Moncton, New Brunswick before making your way to Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Halifax, Nova Scotia to Vancouver, British Columbia – 5,840 Kilometres
The ultimate coast to coast Canadian road trip according to JustFly. Encompassing almost 6,000 kilometres this drive is not for the faint of heart. As for what to expect, you’ll pass through major Canadian cities like Quebec City, Montreal, Winnipeg, Regina, and Calgary before finally reaching the West coast and the beautiful city of Vancouver, British Columbia.
